PHILADELPHIA–August 14, 2018– Metro Commercial Real Estate, Inc. (Metro), one of the nation’s leading full-service, independent retail real estate firms, announced today the opening of a small-format Target and A.C. Moore Essentials at Westmont Plaza in Westmont, New Jersey. This is the first small-format store to open for the A.C. Moore brand in the country and the first small-format Target to enter South Jersey. The adjacent locations, totaling 60,000 square feet, are situated on the corner of Cuthbert Boulevard and MacArthur Boulevard. Executive Vice President and Principal Joe Dougherty represented A.C. Moore and Executive Vice President and Principal Steve Niggeman represented Target in the deals.
“Retailers are seizing the opportunity to expand their footprints with small-format stores and serve customers in urban areas and dense suburban neighborhoods – locations where a full-scale store may not fit,” said Joe Dougherty, Executive Vice President, and Principal at Metro Commercial. “These small-format stores still provide customers with the same fulfilling shopping experience they would expect from their favorite brands but in a more convenient location close to home. It’s a win-win for the retailer and its consumer base.”
Compared to a conventional 18,000 to 23,000-square-foot A.C. Moore, the scaled-back version occupies just 14,800 square feet. The smaller store offers customers the ability to shop closer to home and carries all the fundamental products, tools, and materials customers love from A.C. Moore. The retailer is also set to open a second smaller-format store in Wall Township, New Jersey in November 2018.
As part of Target’s ongoing effort to reach customers where they are, the retailer introduced its small-format layout which is about one-third of the size of a typical Target. The 48,000-square-foot store carries a wide assortment of apparel, accessories, home décor, health and beauty supplies, and groceries. The retailer plans to operate more than 130 mini-Targets by the end of 2019.
Westmont Plaza is located in a high-density, heavily trafficked area. Serving a daytime population of two million individuals, Westmont Plaza is home to businesses including GNC, Dollar Tree, Tuesday Morning, Virtua Express Urgent Care, and Great Clips.
